What Is The Holy Spirit?

Before we look at How To Receive The Holy Spirit, let us look at what the Holy Spirit is.

Many people as a result of biblical activities of the Holy Spirit, have given different ideas on WHAT HOLY SPIRIT IS TO THEM.

For you, what is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God. The spirit of God is God Himself.

 According to John 4:24

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

Having the knowledge of the written word of God, we are very much aware that God is holy.

 "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:15-16).

God being a spirit and also Holy, therefore points that God is the Holy Spirit.

Furthermore, the Holy Spirit in this age is God with us and in us. When I say us, I mean the believers in Christ Jesus.

"And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us." (1 John 3:24).

How To Receive The Holy Spirit

Having understood our brief discussion above, knowing how to receive the holy Spirit is what we are now looking at.

It is easier to understand How To Receive The Holy Spirit if you know what the holy Spirit is, identically.

Having taken note of this, it is worth knowing that we don't receive the holy Spirit by any works or human efforts.

Brother Paul speaking to the Galatians on this matter asked a very important question. He said in Galatians 3:2,

"This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?"

With an understanding of this question, we know How To Receive The Holy Spirit.

Therefore, how to receive the holy Spirit is by hearing the word of faith.

Hearing the word of faith is same as hearing the good news about Christ or the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Here is what brother Peter said on a course as to the likeness of this matter which was disputed on.

"And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us." (Acts 15:7-8).

The Holy Spirit is received in hearing the word of Faith. In other words, He is received in hearing the Gospel.

Why? The reason is in the course of the gospel.

The Gospel speaks of a person who is Christ Jesus, the Saviour and salvation of mankind.

Receiving Christ is same as receiving the spirit of Christ. The spirit of Christ is the same Holy Spirit.

Therefore, the Holy Spirit is in the message of Christ Jesus. How we receive Him is through hearing this message. Isn't that amazing?

The next question now should be, WHEN DO YOU RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT?
